Who are we?

The organisers are all IT professionals with a keen interest in gaming. The LlamaLAN events started off as a small one-off party in a house, but quickly expanded into larger and larger halls. We now run events for up to 40 seated players. The events have been running for many years now, bringing together the computer gaming community of the Medway Towns and further afield. We aim to provide an environment in which you can demonstrate your gaming ability over a high speed computer network, be you a first time gamer or a seasoned professional, but also one where you can relax, have fun and meet like-minded gamers.

What is LlamaLAN

LlamaLAN is a medium sized LAN party. We usually run two events a year (traditionally at the end of the Easter Holidays and the end of the October half term). One persistant concept of LlamaLAN events are the Four Big Teams of Yellow, Red, Blue and Green. You choose your seat and simultaneously choose your Big Team, and have the chance to help take your team to victory over the other three! The people who come along, new or regular, often comment that LlamaLANs are up there with the most fun (and rather unusual) LAN parties in the UK. We are lucky to have a community of attendess who enjoy what we do, who like to come along for the atmosphere - and the randomness that is Golem's overdramatic 3D movies telling the 'story' of LlamaLAN... ;)

Where are we?

We are based in the South East of England. Our LAN parties normally take place in a scout hall in Walderslade, in Kent, UK. But we have been known to use other venues in Kent. We are lucky to see a large number of attendees from the South East of England but regularly play host for people from across the whole country and even from abroad!

So, how does it work?

You bring the machine, and we supply the cabling, the power and the organisation. (Please do bring your own ethernet network cable though!) We run gaming servers running the most popular games and you plug in and play until you drop. The venue has a place to sleep (so make sure you bring a sleeping bag), somewhere to cook (so bring something to eat) and of course somewhere to wash. We always have fun official tournaments to test single players (1v1), clans (often 4v4 or 2v2) and the big teams.

What else can you expect?

Don't worry if you don't arrive with a team as it's a good way of making friends when you are there, and wherever you sit you will be seated with one of the four Big Teams. We have the projector screen on which we can spectate games, especially some of our more fun tournaments. We have also been glad to welcome, at previous events, ProjectorGames with their own special brand of multiplayer gaming. Imagine playing the same game with 30 other people on a 300+ inch screen at the same time!

So how much will it cost?

To cover the cost of the hall hire and equipment we are charging each participant 20.00gbp before the cut-off date, 30.00gbp after the cut-off date and on the door. This will get you a chair, a space at a table, power and a space on the network. Funds assist us with providing prizes and additional props or sound equipment to make each event very memorable. Any spare money is ploughed straight back into better equipment for making your next event more enjoyable.

Spectators

Spectators are welcomed at LlamaLAN parties and will be charged at 6.00gbp per spectator for the entire event.

Spectators can take part in projector games but cannot use a PC brought by a participant of the event. This will be seen as a breach of the terms and conditions and will result in both spectator and participant being removed from the event; unless you cough up the cash. ;)

What do I need to bring?

Your computer fitted with a network card or onboard controller, with all your games installed and ready to go, the usual mouse, keyboard and monitor, but very importantly a power extension cable with enough sockets to run your equipment. You should also bring something to sleep on or in, food and drink for the weekend and wash gear. Think of it as camping with computers. If you forget the food, there is a co-op very nearby the current venue.

Those participants who are of an appropriate age may choose to consume alcohol at these events, and with this in mind we try and keep the events for the over 18s only. However participants between the ages of 16 and 18 are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Any behaviour which is deemed to be detrimental to the event may result in that person being asked to leave; Remember, we are there to have safe, responsible fun. The equipment you bring is your own responsibility, so make sure you transport it safely to and from the event and keep it safe whilst there.
